St. Mary’s Wages the St. Mary’s Way invites us to make a difference, to put our stated values into action, to model for our students what responsible engagement might look like in our immediate community. There is no better time than now for faculty and administration to examine the privilege of being a part of this community and to consider carefully the responsibility that such privilege requires of us.

novus ordo seclorum

“If I am not for myself, who will be? If I am for myself only, what am I? If not now, when?”

… Hillel

At St. Mary’s we advocate a community built on mutual respect – one in which responsible social engagement gives expression to our understanding of the connections between what we teach/study and the world in which we live.

The Socratic challenge – to live an examined life – which lies at the core of the Liberal Arts, asks us to do more than pay lip-service to what we teach. Rather it urges us to live genuinely and in so doing model for our students what paying attention to core humanities values might look like.

St. Mary’s Wages the St. Mary’s Way invites us to make a difference, to put our stated values into action, to model for our students what responsible engagement might look like in our immediate community. 1. The entire college sets an example of what living in community really means. A sound economic foundation based on the lowest pay level ensures health and well being for everyone in the community. Students, living within this environment for 4 years, have a deep appreciation for economic justice when they graduate. What better impetus could they take into the work places and communities they join!
